for patients
Thank you for choosing A/Prof Homi Zargar to provide your urological medical care. We want patients to feel prepared, informed and supported at every step of their journey. This page brings together key information about common urological conditions, investigations and operations that A/Prof Homi Zargar performs. It’s not a replacement for a consultation, but a guide to help you understand the language you’ll hear, what to expect before and after surgery, and when to seek urgent help.
If you’re unsure about anything, please contact our team on 1300 927 427 so we can talk things through with you.
Doctor Zargar consults at multiple convenient locations in Melbourne.
Please see below relevant information for patients including a comprehensive list of procedures Doctor Zargar performs.
WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR INITIAL consultation
Please remember to bring the following items to your initial consultation with Doctor Zargar:
a current referral letter from your general practitioner or referring physician
your Medicare card
your private health care information
your pension or DVA card (if applicable)
a list of current medications and dosages
a list of questions you might want to ask the doctor
relevant test results (e.g. urine tests, blood tests, ultra-sounds etc)
reports from previous urological operations
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION
Doctor Zargar will begin the consultation by asking you about the symptoms you have been experiencing and he will review any tests you supply. He may conduct a physical examination and order more tests where needed. If a diagnosis can be made during your initial consultation, Doctor Zargar will explain your condition and the treatment options available to you.
You are encouraged to ask Doctor Zargar questions about your condition, the treatment and so that you feel completely comfortable and informed.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR SURGERY
If your condition requires surgery, Doctor Zargar will provide you with a set of requirements and instructions to prepare for your procedure. Typically this will include fasting from the previous evening, no alcohol 48 hours prior to surgery and pre-arranging a family member or friend to take you home post surgery.
POST OPERATIVE CARE
Post operative care is a critical component of recovery. The first 72 hours post-surgery are extremely important and Doctor Zagar will set out your individual post operative care instructions so that you give yourself the very best chance to heal fully.
